A motorist has blocked a runaway Volkswagen with his own car after its driver developed a medical emergency while traveling along a Dutch highway.

Henry Timmermans, from Gelderland in the Netherlands, spotted the driver sitting behind the wheel as her car drove on the edge of the grass.

A third car, driving behind Mr. Temmermans and the victim on the A28 near Harderwijk, filmed the dramatic incident on a dashcam on November 19.

Henry Timmermans, from Gelderland in the Netherlands, spotted a female driver hanging behind the wheel as her car drove along the edge of the grass.

The video clip shows Mr. Temmermans carefully moving his car in front of the woman’s VW sedan and preparing for impact.

Shortly before the collision, the woman’s car was drifting outward toward the main road, endangering other motorists.

The footage shows the victim’s car being hit when it hit the back of the Ford Timmermans.

Her car drifted on the edge of the lawn, while Mr. Temmermans slammed onto the hard shoulder to stop the out-of-control Volkswagen.

The unnamed woman was taken to hospital with broken ribs.

Afterwards, Mr. Timmermans told local media: “What I saw was not good. It was clear that the lady was no longer conscious.

He said he decided to hurry up in front of the woman and use his car to stop her because “the handrail will not stop her.”

Timmermans said another motorist stopped the car to help the unconscious woman.

He continued: ‘He called 911 and then we both looked at the car. I saw she had vomited. I could still feel a heartbeat in her neck, so that reassured me.

I keep calling her, “Wake up, what happened?” It helped after about two minutes.

Timmermans said his car was written off as a result of the accident.

He said the woman’s husband and daughter had been in touch with him to express their gratitude for his quick thinking.

Mr. Temmermans was invited to the local town hall so that the civil authorities could honor his actions.

However, Mr. Temmermans added: “People say on social media they’re proud of me, they call me a hero. But I don’t see myself that way. You have an obligation to help those in need. I did what I had to do.”

But viewers of the dramatic footage were wasteful, with one saying, “This guy is awesome!

Not only did he save the driver’s life. It saved a lot of people from getting injured on the highway.

The timing and accuracy were also excellent.

Another said: This driver has a heart and a mind. You saved this person’s life.

Another commentator said: “Restore faith in humanity! Not all heroes wear caps.

“This man is a true hero and deserves our true respect,” added Demetrius Angelakos.

One practical-minded fan suggested: “I hope the insurance company will pay for the damage to this hero’s car.”
