Tiger Woods and his son put in a solid display during Saturday’s first round of the PNC Championship, the first 15-time main-winner competition since his life-threatening car crash in February.
Tiger, 45, and his son Charlie, 12, gather at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. The duo is tied for fifth place after a run that the Grand Slam champion described as “fantastic”.
“We had a lot of fun outside,” Woods said.
The professional is playing for the first time since sustaining a serious fracture of his right leg 10 months ago in a single car accident.
I wish I could walk with him [Charlie] “And I was with him every step of the way as I was last year,” said Woods, who was cruising the course on a golf cart.
“Physically I’m just unable to do that. It was different trying to drive the camper slowly with him and talking to him and making sure we were there and still a team and we were still doing it together.
Despite the golf cart handicap, the father and son duo were on a very big move, and it was clear that Charlie had picked up on some of his father’s golfing manners — and his talent.
The two seemed really comfortable, being like father, like son all day.
The public got a kick out of Charlie for telling his dad all day. They can be seen casually leaning on their putters together, sharing secret handshakes and striking similar poses.

Like father, like son: Tiger Woods, 45, and son Charlie, 12, finished fifth in the first round of the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday
The two met in a 10 Under-62 race on Saturday at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, the first competition to return to Woods after he was involved in a life-threatening traffic accident.
The two were dumbfounded as they displayed similar behaviors throughout the day and enjoyed a ‘cool’ game. “We had a lot of fun outside,” Woods said.
The competition once again showed Woods that there is a long way to go before he can even consider playing the PGA Tour events.
“It’s frustrating when I don’t shoot as much as I know I can see shots that don’t come the way I want them to,” Woods said after the event.
The star golfer claimed to have no “stamina” and not at “round level” yet.
In old numbers, I don’t have the stamina. I did not play. This is the fourth [fifth] Throughout the whole year. I have no golf stamina.
“He’s tired out there, so it was a slow day.
“But this is something I will have to do – if I want to compete here at the Tour level – I will have to regain my stamina and hit thousands and thousands of golf balls. It just takes time.
Despite it being the competition, the two enjoyed their day, cheered on by Woods’ daughter Sam and his girlfriend Erica
All day long, Charlie could have been mistaken for Tiger’s mini-me as they were leaning on their putters.
Despite being tired and visibly more restless throughout the day and walking hard at times, Woods seemed to be enjoying his day with his son as they wore pink polo and a golf hat.
They were encouraged by Charlie’s sister and Wood’s daughter, Sam, and loyal girlfriend Erica.
Woods’ team had 10 birds during a stealth-free run using the scramble format. Charlie sure did his part on the strong show.
“It’s great to have a partner who can hit drive like he did and make some hits,” Woods said of his son.
“He loves to compete,” Tiger said of Charlie.
Our entire family loves to compete in everything we do. This is an arena where he feels comfortable and so do I.
The Thomas family played with Woods and Justin said he was amazed at what he saw, particularly when Woods hit a 220-yard shot from Bar 5, No. 3 and left it 8 feet off the hole.
“It was ridiculous,” said Justin Thomas.
I looked at him and as soon as he sat in the carriage he looked at me and smiled. And I knew that’s the kind of blow he hits when he’s healthy.
“Two good shots – three – came exactly as I wanted,” Woods said.
Woods had a car accident in February, in which his right leg was badly injured.
On February 23, around 7:15 a.m., Woods lost control of a steep stretch of road, smashed a road sign and rolled his car several hundred feet in a horror crash that police said was “lucky to survive.”
He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where his team said he had extensive surgery to repair his right leg.
Anish Mahajan, the hospital’s chief medical officer, said Woods suffered open comminuted fractures of the tibia and fibula — in which bone fragments split into two or more pieces and stick out of the skin — and had a rod inserted into his cane, with his foot and ankle “affixed with a combination of screws and staples” “.
Mahajan said the muscles around the bones were cut to relieve swelling and described the injuries as “significant”.
Police said Woods did not appear to be under the influence at the time of the accident but that blood tests would be carried out as part of an investigation over the past “weeks”.

Woods was recovering from back surgery and taking a break from professional golf, although he was expected to return later this year.
It is not clear if he is taking painkillers, although he has previously taken opioids after back surgery that led to his addiction.
