The marriage of a Muslim man explodes, his father-in-law found out that he was a Jew to marry his daughter

A Muslim man sparked an FBI investigation after he pretended to be an Orthodox Jew to marry, then claimed to be an NSA worker after his family arrested him.

Elijah Huwaila, 23, whose real name is Ali Hassan Huwaila who hails from Lebanon, had an online relationship with Sally, a Jewish woman of Syrian descent who lives in Brooklyn, New York.

In what appears to be a lovable moment of frenzy, Helwaih goes on to concoct a whole drama relating to his non-existent Jewish roots after his new bride comes to doubt his past.

He says he became obsessed with Judaism during his lonely teenage years in rural Lebanon, and that he tried to convert, but was rejected by the synagogue.

Upon detection of the deception, Sally’s parents intervened, summoned the FBI and pulled their daughter away from her husband.

Al-Huwayla was actually from Tire in southern Lebanon and was born into a Shiite family.

But none of this is mentioned with the development and deepening of the couple’s relationship.

Huila went so far as to learn Hebrew in order to recite Jewish prayers as well as enroll at the local Chabad Community Center at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he could study the Torah.

He also alluded to his Jewish heritage with his lineage that contains fake Ashkenazi names including Mayer Lansky, the name of a former Jewish gangster.

Eventually, Huila and Sally got married in a ceremony in New York, but after a few weeks of taking their vows, she was confused by her husband’s background when she discovered his Lebanese passport bearing his Arabic name.

Sally immediately told her friends and family, who in turn called the authorities. It is said that she is now living in a safe house.

The FBI is now investigating not only the alleged deception but Hawila’s allegations that he acted as an agent for the NSA, but that he finally submitted a “fake” from his colleagues at the agency to prove his job.

The US Department of Homeland Security, together with the Israeli consulate in New York, is also considering the possibility of the man entering the country illegally.

They say there is no indication that he was involved in any terrorist behaviour.

My lie is not justified, but at the same time I lied because I was in pain, but I want to correct my mistake. “I want them to understand where my pain comes from,” Hawila told The Times of Israel.

“Things started showing up and the rumors started and they took her away from me, and separated her from me,” he said, crying.

Huwaila said his relationship with Judaism is not fleeting and it actually began when he was living with his family in Lebanon when he was a boy.

That’s where I belong, that’s how I feel in connection, so I started talking to people, saying “I’m Jewish.” People started spitting on me in the streets, and I started getting death threats.

Huwaila claims that his family eventually moved to the United States legally and began searching for synagogues in the area, initially hoping to convert from Islam.

When I was rejected, I started saying I was a Jew. My name is Elijah and this is the name I chose for myself because I love the story of the prophet Elijah.

After studying engineering at Texas A&M University, he became active in Jewish and pro-Israel organizations and no one expressed any doubts about his Middle Eastern background.

I still say I came from Lebanon because, you know, I read a lot about the Lebanese Jewish community and I liked it.

‘When she saw the ID,’ he said, ‘I had to make up something,’ so I said to her, ‘You know, that’s the NSA ID, I’m on a mission, stuff like that, I made up something,’ he said.

Time passes and I meet her parents and tell them the same story. But her parents, they just searched everything.”

Her father started searching my last name in Google until he got to my father who told him things about me, where he said, “No, he’s not Jewish, he’s not that, he’s not.”

“So I started making more stuff,” he said, “I was panicking, and they took her away from me, and took her away from me.”

The FBI got involved after suspicions arose that he might be working for a terrorist group set to infiltrate the Jewish community. Hezbollah’s headquarters are located in southern Lebanon.

When the FBI agent came to my place, I said, “Sir, I give you my permission to spy on all my phone calls, I’m not affiliated with anyone.”

The FBI has so far not found anything to suggest he was involved in terrorism-related activities or falsified any documents.

Huwaila also says that he never intended to harm his wife, Sally, but that they live apart now.

If she wants to give me a second chance, she can give me a second chance, and if she doesn’t want to, I still don’t blame her. Hawila said: But I want her to know that she is the love of my life.

Rabbi Yossi Lazarov of Texas A&M University’s Jewish Student Center where Huila used to spend time while on campus, has now distanced himself during the entire episode, despite attending his religious Jewish wedding.

“This is an unfortunate case of a confused young man who had a hypothetical affair with a member of the Syrian Jewish community who was humiliated to discover after her marriage that he was not a Jew,” Rabbi Lazarov wrote in a statement.

The rabbinic in charge asked the Chabad rabbinic of Texas to walk the groom to Chuba because he did not have any close relatives in the United States.

We have all been clearly misled about his identity. Our hearts go out to this woman, her family, and everyone else that this person cheated on here in Texas, New York and New Jersey.
