Roman Abramovich buys Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for £264m

Roman Abramovich has bought a £264m Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to add to his £930m collection of luxury yachts and £16m cars.

Forbes magazine has named the 50-seater jet as the most expensive private jet in the world with a base cost of £188m and £76m of extra equipment rumored to fit the billionaire’s taste.

According to Flightradar data, the plane was flown from Basel in Switzerland, where it was being processed, to the Russian capital, Moscow, on December 18.

It is understood that it was built in 2015 for PrivatAir, a Swiss airline, but was never handed over to the company when it filed for bankruptcy in 2018.

The plane, believed to be Abramovich’s second private jet after his £128m Boeing 767-33AER currently on the market, is one of only 250 aircraft in the world, and is primarily owned and operated by major airlines.

Only two such planes are believed to be privately owned – one used by the Mexican leader as a presidential plane and the other used by UAS International Trip Support, which operates the global luxury jet service Dream Jet.

A spokesperson for Millhouse, the company that manages the 55-year-old Abramovich’s assets, declined to comment on the news.

Meanwhile, in August, Chelsea owner’s new £430m luxury yacht was spotted for the first time at sea, off the billionaire’s stadium in Antibes on the French Riviera.

The 460-foot Solaris is the most expensive custom-made luxury yacht ever, with 48 cabins on eight decks, a crew of 60 and space for 36 guests.

Built in Bremerhaven, Germany, Solaris recently completed sea trials and was docked briefly in Barcelona before moving to Cape d’Ale near Monaco, then Antibes.

It is believed to be his second luxury yacht after the Eclipse, a slightly longer boat valued at £500m.

All its guests can be accommodated in luxurious state rooms and travel between the eight decks of the boat by elevator.

In addition to a gym, sauna, jacuzzi and at least one pool that comes standard on boats like these, and if the Solaris is like a 530-foot Eclipse, it will also have a beauty salon, with beauticians and hairdressers.

Eclipse has a nightclub with a dance floor but Solaris instead has an outdoor “beach club” at the back of the upper deck.

Solaris has a fleet of 20 high-speed jet skis and at least one helicopter to transport guests from ship to ship. Abramovich is also expected to invest in a personal submarine.
