I started Microsoft is testing a new firmware update for Xbox One, Xbox Elite 2, and Xbox Adaptive controllers that brings some significant improvements to existing hardware.
The update brings next-generation features previously available across Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, including better connectivity across devices and reduced latency.
The biggest plus is the ability to quickly switch between paired devices on the Xbox console. The company is also adding a dynamic response time input (DLI) feature to improve input latency across older controllers.
The new firmware update includes Bluetooth Low Energy support for compatible controllers.
Most current Microsoft Xbox One controllers include Bluetooth support for use with smartphones or computers. But the controllers connect to the Xbox consoles through the Xbox Wireless protocol.
This new firmware now makes it easier to switch between the two, allowing the controllers to remember the Bluetooth of your phone and Xbox console and quickly switch between connected devices by double-clicking the pairing button.
The company also added a feature to enter the dynamic response time (DLI)., which reduces input latency across joysticks connected to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles to make gameplay more responsive.

Microsoft continues to update Xbox accessories
The addition of DLI means that any older Xbox One controllers reduce latency with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Just like the latest controllers shipped with these platforms.
Both are new features supported by the latest Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms. But it’s good to see the company extend this to older hardware.
“We believe it’s important to maintain compatibility with the Xbox accessories that people in their collection have,” said Daniel Ruiz, Director of Product Marketing for Xbox Accessories. And ensuring that we deliver the best gaming experience no matter how you choose to play.
The company has begun testing the new controller firmware with Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha Xbox Insiders. It should reach all Xbox console owners in the coming months.
