Is Microsoft playing its game to develop military artificial intelligence?

Microsoft is known as one of the leading technology companies. The company owns a large number of military contracts with various parties, as is the case with other technical companies. But Microsoft may outperform its competitors in this area by relying on a video game.

This is because Microsoft is currently preparing to launch Age of Empires 4, which will be available for free to Xbox Game Pass subscribers as usual. The game was developed by the Relic team and will be published by the Xbox Studios themselves.

Xbox Studios Artistic Director Adam Isgreen spoke about its AI technologies a short while ago at one interviews. He stated at the time that the game relies on machine learning techniques to develop its own artificial intelligence.

Besides, Isgren explained that the development team might add a new difficulty level. This level will allow machine learning techniques to train and teach the game’s AI system based on the playing styles of the players themselves.

According to him, this will make the game’s AI “invincible.” This is while the game already relied on AI from before launch, but not on learning from other people’s games.

Microsoft and military artificial intelligence

Age of Empires 4 offers a strategic war game experience that is similar to a board game. Therefore, this game depends on the player’s intelligence and planning to a large extent.

Some sources believe that Microsoft’s achievements in the field of games may contribute in one way or another to improving its military artificial intelligence techniques. This is because the game worlds allow a huge space to train some models very freely.

However, this is not a certainty, and is no more than an assumption based on Ezgren’s statements on the one hand. On the other hand, the rapid growth of artificial intelligence technologies. But the assumption that Microsoft is using the Xbox platform to train warlike AI is an intriguing one.
