Instagram introduces text-to-speech effects for Reels

Instagram was apparently trying to woo TikTok users when it launched the short video format called Reels.

This is another effort by Instagram to keep up with TikTok when it comes to short video, as the Meta-owned platform offers big rewards to motivate content creators.

The text-to-speech feature is essential for access, as it helps blind and visually impaired people understand written text.

But videos containing these robotic voices have become so popular on TikTok that the voice actress behind the feature has sued the company for not giving it permission to use her recordings.

After the lawsuit was filed, TikTok changed the voice behind the feature.

Content creators often use text-to-speech audio feedback not for accessibility features. But because it can be funny to have a computerized monotone narrate the content.

The Text-to-Speech tool can be found inside the Text tool in Reels Camera. Once you’ve recorded or uploaded a video, go to the preview to add text.

Once text is added, a text bubble appears at the bottom of the screen, allowing users to specify the time when they want that part of the text to appear.

But you can now click the three-dot icon to open a menu for each text bubble, which gives you the option to add text to the speech voiceover.

There are two audio options to choose from. AndBut the sound effects allow you to get more creative with Reels videos.

These features allow you to edit the voice or voiceover of your post. To see these effects, you can click on the note once the Reels has been recorded to open the audio mixer. You then see a list of effects that allow you to modify the voice in Reels or Voiceover.

New features are now rolling out to mobile app users. With these features, the platform hopes to attract those who have been reluctant to use Reels due to their absence.
