Family of five renovates two-story RV into dream home

A family of five has renovated a two-story RV into their dream home where they now live full time on the road, and it comes complete with a master bedroom, two lofts, a kitchen, dining area, and a spacious living room.

Molly and Jaren Gracia, along with their three kids, Lillie, 13, Jaxton, nine, and Willow, four, from Texas, decided to ditch their home and move into an RV in 2019.

However, after a year of living in the mobile home, they realized were ready to upgrade their living situation.

For $55,000, the couple purchased a brand new, 400-square-foot RV – and decided to transform it into the perfect place for them to call home.

They spent two years working on it, slowly redoing each room – and it now has luxurious amenities like a rainfall showerhead, a washer and dryer, a fireplace, and a retractable projector screen for watching movies.

Before the family decided to move into an RV full time, Molly recalled struggling to take care of their kids by herself, since her husband was away a lot because of work.

They had purchased a small RV for him to stay in while he was traveling for his job as a contractor, but Molly hated how often they were apart.

‘I was wanting to be with him instead of having a house with the kids and surviving on my own,’ she told Insider recently.

The couple began to toy with the idea of selling their home and moving the entire family into an RV full time so that they could all be together. And eventually, they decided to make the move.

‘We literally sold it all, all the way down to the silverware drawer,’ recalled Jaren.

But after a year of living in the mobile home, they decided it was time to get rid of their three-bedroom, two-bathroom RV and replace it with one that had a little more living space.

They now reside in one that has one bedroom for Molly and Jaren, two lofts for the kids, and a bathroom that they all share, as well as a living room, dining area, and kitchen.

‘It doesn’t feel like a cramped, little RV anymore,’ Molly gushed of their current space.

After purchasing their new RV in 2020, however, the couple realized that it still needed a lot of work.

‘We asked, “What would work best for us?”‘ Jaren explained. ‘And then we just got to work.’

Jaren estimates that they have now spent around $13,500 in total on the renovations.

The began by fixing up their bedroom. They added panels of natural wood to the headboard above their bed, along with new lamps which they mounted to the ceiling.

They then transformed the living room – replacing the plain, black couches that came with the RV for nicer, brown, leather ones.

The RV also contains blackout shades over all the windows, a washer and dryer in the bedroom, and a desk off the kitchen for them to do work at.

He also built a second loft above the bathroom so that his kids could have more room.

‘I’ve always been a fan of the hidden rooms and hidden doors,’ he explained.

To optimize their space, he also installed drawers behind their stairs and created a storage unit behind their fireplace.

The family loves to watch movies, so they decided to add a retractable projector screen that comes down from the ceiling.

They relocate to a new state every few months, and are happy to have the home of their dreams.

‘Your home always stays the same on the inside, but once you open that door, the outside is always changing,’ Jaren gushed. ‘And that’s what we love.’
