Eternals director Chloe Zaho said the upcoming movie will have “a very big impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
In a recent interview with Total FilmZhao hints at the importance of her upcoming Marvel movie, which tells the story of immortals who possess supernatural powers and have been secretly living on Earth for thousands of years. She noted how the independent film itself might leave a lasting impression on the Marvel Cinematic Universe after its release in November.
“I think we stand as an independent film for sure,” the Academy Award-winning director stated before touching on the expected impact her movie Eternals would have on the broader Marvel universe. “But I think we’re going to have a very big impact on the future of the MCU with what happens in this movie. And it’s, and I say this as a fan, so satisfying to me! I’m so excited.”
Several cast members who interviewed for the same issue of the magazine praised the cultural diversity of the film’s characters. Salma Hayek, who plays Jack, referred to Eternals as a “complete game changer” in this sense, with the film’s variety extending “beyond geography.”
One of the movie’s signature characters is star Kit Harington, best known as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, who hopes the movie is just the tip of the iceberg for his deeper character. Harrington expressed his wish for Dean Whitman (also known as the Black Knight in the comics) to have a “longer path” despite being the “human character of the story” rather than immortal.
As Harrington said to Total Film: “I have no idea if my character will last or not. I’ve read about who he could be, or might be. So there’s the potential for a longer path. And I think that’s just the tip of the iceberg for my character. That’s what I’m hoping for. But I don’t know..” I’m just as clueless as anyone else to come.”
Marvel’s Eternals is the next Phase 4 movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It will come on November 5th.
