A Conservative MP has been arrested on suspicion of improper driving after crashing late into the night into a lamppost.

The Mail on Sunday has revealed that Bridgend Representative Jimmy Wallis is under police investigation into a road accident last month in a quiet village.

Mr Wallis, who was elected in 2019, was arrested after police were called to the ‘one-car crash’ just after 1.10am on Sunday, November 28, and was later released. Police said there were no injuries.

The Mail on Sunday could reveal that Bridgend MP Jimmy Wallis is under police investigation into a road accident last month in a quiet village.

Yesterday, local sources in the village of Llanblethian, near Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan, said the Mercedes and Wallis hit the wooden lamp post – which doubles as a telegraph pole – so hard that it broke at its base.

This caused internet outages for some residents until the pole was replaced earlier this month.

A spokesman for Mr. Wallis confirmed last night that the MP had been arrested over the incident but added that he had been released without charge.

“Jimmy is involved in an accident and is helping the police with their investigation,” he said.

South Wales Police said: ‘A 37-year-old man from Cowbridge has been arrested on suspicion of improper driving.

He was released under investigation.
