Cheshire Police Chief mocks TripAdvisor’s Christmas card for repeat offenders

Police force sends Christmas cards to convicts: Cheshire police chief mocks Trip Advisor’s note for repeating offenders in stunt described as ‘ridiculous’ by former Home Secretary David Mellor

  • Police send Christmas card to repeat offenders across Cheshire
  • Tripadvisor-style review features of a nursery suite aptly named “Celladvisor”
  • Scam ad saying offenders can have ‘free cancellation’ if they ‘avoid crime’
  • Police Chief Mark Roberts wrote “Think again if you think about crime” inside

A Christmas card was sent to hundreds of repeat offenders across Cheshire by police reminding them to “think again” before thinking about the crime over the holidays.

The card features a Tripadvisor review form for the custody ward, which is where criminals should expect to stay if they misbehave over Christmas, and the police hilariously rated it a half star.

They are being sent to perpetrators across Warrington in Cheshire as part of the police’s Operation Jingle campaign, which aims to keep people feeling safe and secure during the festive period.

However, former Home Secretary David Mellor called the stunt “ridiculous” after Cheshire Police revealed the card.

There’s a message inside from Police Chief Mark Roberts, which says, “It is not recommended to spend Christmas with us. If you are thinking of committing a crime, think again.”

The card reads “Classic Collection” which shows “Free cancellation” if offenders avoid any criminal activity, and says no TV or wifi available.

An anonymous “reviewer” also wrote on a sarcastic ad: “Hard mattress, cool room. Toilets and washing facilities are minimal at best. Wouldn’t stay again or recommend.”

Police Chief Roberts said: “The goal of #OpJingles is to deter criminals, apprehend those responsible, reduce disruption across the county and keep people feeling safe and secure during the holidays.

This card is designed to remind some of our serial offenders that crime will not be tolerated and if you commit a crime we will target you.

“The nursery suite is definitely not the best place to spend your time, and as you can see from the card, the facilities we have will not be as luxurious as you would expect at home.

“I want to reassure people that we remain resolute in our pursuit of those who believe they are above the law and will ensure that they are held accountable for the crimes they have committed.”

We want everyone to have a good time and enjoy themselves in December, and the best way to do that is to act responsibly and make sure you are with your families and friends over the holidays – spending the night in a nursery suite is not something I would recommend.

John Dwyer, Commissioner of Police and Crime in Cheshire, said: ‘In my 30 years in the police, I’ve seen so many people spending Christmas in cells and I can’t imagine the experience becoming more enjoyable.

There’s a serious message behind #OpJingles: If you’re going to try to ruin someone else’s birthday in Cheshire through crime, you’re going to end up spoiling your own.

“I hope everyone in Cheshire can enjoy a relaxed and responsible Christmas with their friends and family, and that anyone who wants to turn a new page can do so in 2022.”
