Team USA Olympians from 2020 and 2022 finally get their White House visit

President Joe Biden hosted Team USA who competed in the 2020 and 2022 Olympics at the White House – and revealed his own dreams of athletic glory.

The event was larger than typical sports celebrations, and included 600 athletes who competed in the games. The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo were delayed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That put athletes from both summer and winter Olympics together for the same event.

Biden lauded members of the team, which included those who competed in the Olympics and the Paralympic games.

‘Look how you handle victory and defeat,’ he gushed. ‘You’ve been through so damn –darn – much,’ he said. ‘I’m sorry you had to wait that year,’ he said.

He also collected a pair of Nikes and a team jacket. Olympic Speedskater Brittany Bowe and Curler John Shuster presented the swag.

Team USA Olympians from 2020 and 2022 finally get their White House visit

‘Let’s hear from someone in the back of the room:’ Gold Medal wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock peeked into the White House briefing room after the event

He brought up his own time as a high school and college athlete – he played football as a freshman at the University of Delaware.

‘I had all these Walter Mitty dreams,’ he said.

The White House put on a big display for the athletes, who wore their matching white jackets.

A military band played jazz tunes for the ceremony, and a larger military ensemble played the Olympic Theme to welcome athletes and send them off.

Biden and first lady Jill Biden walked out to the familiar song, rather than Hail to the Chief.

Athletes snapped photos and selfies with Biden. A group of them presented the first couple with matching Team USA jackets. First lady Jill Biden was already wearing her own team apparel.

The president joked about her obsession. ‘All she could do was talk about you all,’ he said. ‘Constantly.’

Vice President Kamala Harris, back at the White House after testing positive for COVID-19, and first gentleman Douglas Emhoff were also there, and also received jackets.

It was Harris’ first White House public event since testing positive for the coronavirus. She delivered a fiery speech at Emily’s List about abortion on Monday night.

All 600 athletes gathered on the South Lawn of the White House and flanked the building, which was adorned with Team USA banners.

Some, including swimming great Katie Ledecky and Gold Medal wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock, even peeked into the White House briefing room.

Mensah-Stock, who was the first black woman to win Gold for the US in the sport, posed behind the podium, pretending to call on reporters. ‘I love it!’ she told DailyMail.com.
